Frequently Asked Questions
Most visitors use domestic flights between the main islands, with some ferries and cargo boats on slower routes and small boats for nearby islands. Charters help for remote, group or time-sensitive trips. There is no road network linking the country. Choose flying when time is short; choose a boat when you have days to spare.
Weather, aircraft payload limits, daylight and whether a flight makes several stops all change the clock. Ferries are slower still and wait on sea conditions and cargo. A short line on the map can become an overnight if you connect through Santo. Ask about stops when you book, not only the destination name.
Build in extra time, especially before an international flight home. Domestic schedules can change, and outer-island weather closes small airstrips. A buffer night in Port Vila at the end of the trip is wise if you have been island-hopping. Tight same-day connections are the plans most likely to fail.
