This reef itinerary moves from calmer Port Vila waters to quite different sites around Tanna, so you see more than one kind of reef. Expect fringing reefs, snorkel gardens and, if you dive, volcanic or drop-off sites as well as gentler coral. Five days is a taste, not a full survey of the archipelago. Conditions change with weather and island.
Snorkelling and diving are the reason for the trip. Land time is mainly transfers, meals and a look at Tanna's coast or volcano if you fly south. Pack your own mask if you have one, and book dive or snorkel seats before you change islands. Non-divers can still enjoy the week from the surface.
You will spend a large share of each activity day on or in the water. Travel days between Efate and Tanna are on domestic flights, so those mornings are not reef time. Once you are based, mornings on the water and afternoons ashore is a common rhythm. Build a weather spare if swell or rain cancels a site.
