Frequently Asked Questions
This is a proper trek, not a resort walking path. You move through forest, remote villages and the Small Nambas and Big Nambas territories, with uneven tracks and humid days. Fitness helps, and you should be comfortable with basic bungalow stays and long walking hours. It is for hikers who want culture as much as the trail.
Prepare for heat, mud and simple conditions. Pack broken-in shoes, cash, treated water and modest clothes for villages. Book the domestic flight to Malekula and local guides or bungalows before you leave Efate, as services are limited. Travel insurance and a buffer day for weather are wise.
Parts of the route feel remote. You will be away from ATMs, shops and reliable phone coverage, staying in community bungalows rather than hotels. That isolation is the appeal if you like walking into living kastom. It is not a good first Vanuatu trip if you need easy exits or resort backup.
