World Tuna Day

World Tuna Day 2026 will be celebrated in Port Vila to recognize the importance of tuna to Vanuatu and the Pacific region’s economy, food security, livelihoods, and ocean heritage. The two-day event will promote awareness and discussion around key topics including maritime boundaries, why Vanuatu needs a tuna cannery factory, sustainable fishing and the blue economy, and the importance of tuna for food security and healthy nutrition.

The celebration will feature a series of exciting activities including:

• Youth Debate & Quiz Competition

• Speeches from four selected high schools

• World Tuna Day 2026 AI Song Competition

• Tuna Cup Grand Final between ABM Galaxy FC and Tafea FC

• Fishing Competition – Big Catch (registration required)

• Rugby 7s Competition (30 April – 1 May 2026)
