Blue Pacific World
We have launched a new project in Vanuatu this week aimed at reducing the use of plastic water bottles by visitors in the tourism value chain. With the support of three pilot hotels Ramada by Wyndham, Eratap Beach Resort and Breakas Beach Resort Vanuatu. Visitors staying in these hotels will be encouraged to purchase re-usable drinking bottles and the hotels will then provide drinking water refills for the duration of the visitors’ stay. “This first project doesn’t only focus on reduction of plastics” says owner of Blue Pacific World Ms Nicola Barnes, “the money from the purchase of the bottles also provides important funding to our chosen partner Roawia Marine Coastal Rehabilitation. We chose this local rural tourism operator as our partner as they are actively involved in coral reef management and sustainable tourism practices – all causes we believe are very important and therefore are delighted to support.” Globally, humans use one million plastic water bottles a minute, and tons of these end up washed into the sea or polluting the land. In Vanuatu there are bans on single use plastics, but these do not yet include water bottles. By reducing consumption, we reduce pollution.
