The 4th National Arts Festival will be held at Lakatoro, Malekula in August from 18th-23rd 2019.

Vanuatu has over 130 languages in a population of about 270,000 people. Languages roughly demarcate cultural groups, thus Vanuatu is considered as one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world.

The festival aims to promote the cultural diversity across all 83+ islands by bringing all the different cultures to one center stage showcasing traditional knowledge and skills and highlighting different aspects of culture including custom dances, ceremonies, traditional songs, traditional methods of food preparation/preservation/production, weaving, oral traditions and so forth to encourage the transfer of this knowledge to the younger generation in order to preserve the rich cultural heritage that Vanuatu has.

The first National Arts Festival was held in Port Vila in 1979, the second held on Santo in 1991 and the third was held in Port Vila in 2009 and were all deemed great successes.

Plans are set for around 100 participants from each province so 600 in total, who will be showcasing custom dances, custom ceremonies, traditional carvings, traditional tools, traditional skills, oral traditions and various demonstrations of traditional knowledge from their islands and provinces.
