Children's Day has been celebrated nationally since 1923 with the government and the newspapers of the time declaring it a day for the children. However, it was decided that an official declaration was needed to clarify and justify this celebration and the official declaration was made nationally in 1931 by the founder and the President of the Republic of Turkey,Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Government agencies, educational institutions, churches, businesses, and families all put an emphasis on the value of children. There is special stress on fighting child abuse, but for most, it is simply a day for children and parents to spend extra time together. Every year, there are parades, concerts, public speeches, sports events, and other celebratory activities in honor of Children’s Day. Additionally, it is common to give one’s children a special gift on this occasion and to take them somewhere fun. Tourist with children traveling with them will find many opportunities to take part in Vanuatu’s Children’s Day events. Don’t forget to head out to the Saralana Park opposite the museum to have a look at the range of shows and activities being displayed there.
